Pop Up Art Show at Art Modern Gallery, Miami, Florida.

I will be a part of a pop art show at Art Modern Gallery in Miami, Florida. The show is titled "Pop Up" and will feature my work alongside some of my favorite artists including Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein.

Robert Rauschenberg "Man at work" documentary.

One of the most important American artists of the twentieth century, since the mid-1950's Rauschenberg has continued to pioneer new approaches to an extraordinarily diverse range of media. The many aspects of his prolific creativity are explored in this film, which draws on the ideal resource of a major retrospective of his work at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. At his studio on the island of Captiva, Rauschenberg gives a relaxed and candid interview and is seen at work.

A few of my favorite things.

This May will mark the two year anniversary of the passing of Robert Rauschenberg. Rauschenberg has had a huge impact on why I am an artist. His compositional ideas make perfect sense to me. He put structure in chaos and it became silent and perfect. He could take trash and reconfigure it to make it art. He saw beauty where others saw nothing. A quote that struck me hard was "Art is everywhere". I believe this is true if you keep your eyes open and mind free. Here are a few of his pieces that are a reminder of how great his work is.

I will be showing at Art Modern Gallery in Naples, Florida throughout the month of January as a part of a group show. My work will sit alongside many of my idols including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Keith Haring, and Roy Lichtenstein.

The artwork of Ben Murphey.

I was introduce to the artwork of Ben Murphey through Dina Brown of Gallery Brown in Los Angeles. Murpheys' work sites influence from such greats as Rauschenberg, Warhol, and Basquiat. His pieces tell and in depth story of the darker side of Americana. His unique visual language, intentionally naive looking in nature at times, lends itself to the beauty and honesty of his pieces.

Murpheys' images are derived from corporate culture that has been ingrained in our subconscious through mass marketing campaigns, magazine advertisements, and daily living. His subdued color palette is perfectly paired with his content to create timeless pieces of art that speak to my favorite era of American history.
