Art Opening. Year Of The Dragon. Compound Gallery, Portland, OR.

I will be included in a show honoring the life and career of Bruce Lee. The show will be at Compound Gallery in Portland, Oregon (who gave me my first show back in 2003). The show is titled "Year of the Dragon" and will include work from such talented artists as Ren Sakurai, Rob-O, Tetsuya Toshima, Patrick Fong and many others. I will have one piece in the show which is pictured below.

This is a fund-raising event for the Bruce Lee Foundation in support of building the Bruce Lee Museum in Seattle. Bruce Lee's Widow, Linda Lee Cadwell will be attending the Opening Reception. The reception will be held on April 5, 2012 at 7PM at Compound Gallery 107 NW 5th Ave, Portland, OR 97209.

The artwork of Dave Kinsey.

Dave Kinsey has always been on my art radar. While working in the skateboard industry from 1996-2001 he was one of the bigger names for designers who also had a career in fine art along with Shepard Fairey and Evan Hecox. I was fortunate to be living in Portland when he had a show at the Compound Gallery and then Basil Hayward Gallery in 2002 and was able to snatch up a piece of his art.

Kinsey has been very active in the gallery scene over the past few years and his style has matured as it progressed from his graphic roots replacing it with expressive brushstrokes and less structure while remaining true to his bold color palette of reds and blacks. The result is quite amazing. Kinsey still has touches of typography and his trademark characters that defined his style in the earlier years of his career but has added a new element of abstraction that fits his style perfectly.

Brandon McLean Website and Art.

It's been awhile since I checked up on Brandon's website so I decided to head over and see what he has been up to.

I met Brandon through e mail and we traded art some time ago, which eventually led to us showing together in Portland, OR at the Compound Gallery in 2006. He drove cross country with his girlfriend, Courtney, to meet up and a fun time was had by all!

I love the quality of Brandon's artwork and his subject matter is always interesting and thought provoking. The way that he uses collage and paint together has been inspirational in my work.

Lately Brandon has been busy setting up new shows, watching Dexter and working on his "Toolbox Wood Block Collection" which is an on-going collection of random collage and paint experiments on wooden blocks.The blocks range from 3"x5" to 5"x5". The collection includes themes ranging from found family fishing photos to Kennedy Assasination newspaper clippings.
