I found these amazing illustrations on flickr. Thanks to oldtasty for posting them. These remind me of the work that Shepard Fairey does today in the sense of the colors, illustration style and propaganda theme.

"Urban Eyes" group show, Art Modern Gallery, Naples, Florida

I will have my work included in an upcoming show at Art Modern Gallery in Naples, Florida. The show is titled "Urban Eyes" and focuses on street artists and their view of the landscapes that surround them.

The show will feature work from Banksy, Shepard Fairey, DOLK, Emilio Remoir, myself and more.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 7-9PM and run through October 23, 2009.

The artwork of Dave Kinsey.

Dave Kinsey has always been on my art radar. While working in the skateboard industry from 1996-2001 he was one of the bigger names for designers who also had a career in fine art along with Shepard Fairey and Evan Hecox. I was fortunate to be living in Portland when he had a show at the Compound Gallery and then Basil Hayward Gallery in 2002 and was able to snatch up a piece of his art.

Kinsey has been very active in the gallery scene over the past few years and his style has matured as it progressed from his graphic roots replacing it with expressive brushstrokes and less structure while remaining true to his bold color palette of reds and blacks. The result is quite amazing. Kinsey still has touches of typography and his trademark characters that defined his style in the earlier years of his career but has added a new element of abstraction that fits his style perfectly.

Shepard Fairey exhibit "Supply and Demand" at ICA Boston.

February 6, 2009 marks the opening for Shepard Fairey's art exhibit at the ICA in Boston. The exhibit serves as a retrospective for Fairey's work over the past two decades and he has also been invited to make art in several public spaces around the Boston area.

Fairey's work needs no introduction. It is pure and the message is clear. His influences range from Russian constructivist propoganda posters to the pop sensibility of Andy Warhol to the urban environment and he cultivates it all into a clean vision that is clearly all his own.

Noone has captured the attention of art critics as Fairey has in recent memory. His work speaks to our generation in a way that punk rock spoke to us in the early 80's. It is a call to question everything. Our government, our police force, our environment and most importantly, ourselves.

Art Modern Gallery will present Art Object, a fine arts show highlighting works by artists both past and present. The exhibition showcases a fresh look at innovative works created by artists from the mid 20th century through today.

This exhibition allows the viewer a chance to consider the ways in which artists respond to their ever-changing cultural environment with objects and cultural imagery as creative tools of expression. Art Object illustrates how these artists have in turn shaped forever our visual landscape.
