Go See This. Cutter Edges Contemporary Collage Show.

Kareem Rizk will have three new original works featured amongst many great artists in 'Cutters Edges - Contemporary Collage' - the first ever exhibition to be displayed at Gestalten's brand new gallery, Gestalten Space in Berlin, Germany. The show opens on April 29th and runs till May 28th.

Following the success of the Cutters exhibitions at Pool Gallery (Berlin), Cinders Gallery (New York) and the West Cork Arts Centre (County Cork, Ireland), 'Cutters Edges: Contemporary Collage' marks the fourth exhibition in the Cutters series curated by James Gallagher.

Kareem Rizk solo exhibition at Phone Booth Gallery.

Kareem Rizk is having a solo show at Phone Booth Gallery in Long Beach, CA. If you are near the gallery be sure not to miss this one. Kareems work is amazing and he will be in attendance at the opening.

Phone Booth Gallery is proud to present "Collagephile," Kareem Rizk's long-awaited second solo exhibition in Southern California. The exhibition, which celebrates the weathered, worn and layered medium of collage, opens with a reception on June 19, 2010 from 7-10pm. It continues through July 10, 2010, and is viewable online at www.phoneboothgallery.com, and at Phone Booth Gallery's new exhibition space, 2533 East Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803.

A mesh of vintage consumerism, post-war sophistication, and classic car culture, Rizk's work explores nostalgia with understated virtuosity. In "Collagephile," worn advertisements, fashion images, colored shapes and tactile wood surfaces put minimalism into conversations with sentimentalism. "Buy a Dream," a bottom-heavy image with a red and teal color scheme, shows a gloved, gowned woman emerging from a 1967 Holden HR. Above her, barely legible billboard-style text reads "So Bright and Beautiful." All the dated glamour represented in this image is, of course, no longer bright, but it still evinces an antiquated beauty. This sort of defunct classiness courses through much of Rizk's work. "Got Me a TV," a droll collage informed by the brazen culture of street art, shows a grinning man holding a brand new, circa-1960 television. The layered text in the background looks like the faded detritus that lines a subway tunnel's walls.

Each of the eighteen images in the exhibition takes a sleek, design-inspired approach to composition, making the baggage of cultural history look concise and cultivated. In the age of mash-ups and remixes, collage fills an essential and singular visual niche, allowing artists to re-interpret and rearrange visual history. "Collagephile" surveys that niche.

Born in Australia in 1982, Rizk is a Melbourne-based artist. He received a B.A. in Visual Communications from Monash University in 2004 and has since exhibited his art internationally. His work has appeared in numerous high-profile art and design publications, including Varoom Magazine and juxtapoz.com, and is held in private collections worldwide. Rizk will be present at the opening.

"Retroism" group show, Australia.

May has been the month of pop art shows! I have been invited by Kareem Rizk to be one of the artists in a group art show. The show is titled "Retroism" and it will be showing at Retrospect Gallery in Byron Bay, Australia. The opening will be May 21, 2010 from 6-9PM.

The show features a talented group of artists including Nick Morris, Kareem Rizk, Julien Pacaud, Eduardo Recife, Cecil Touchon, Mario Wagner, Charles Wilkin, Handiedan, Sunny Belliston Taylor, Tez Humphreys, and Falling Ruin.

Art Whino "Life Essentials" Art Opening.

Kareem Rizk contacted me about a show opening that he is involved wuth along with a great host of artists.
It's been a busy year for Kareem being a part of so many great art shows around the world. 2009 seems to be his year!

Art Whino and The International Lifeline Fund present Life Essentials, a four-city tour that brings together the best Visual and Musical Artists in support of ground-breaking humanitarian and environmental projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The exhibit will feature the works of over 100 artists from across the country and around the globe. The tour will kick off in Washington, D.C. with a two-night event on Thursday and Saturday, September 24 and 26. Following the D.C. launch, the show will hit the road with stops at Art Basel in Miami Beach on December 5-6, New York City in March, and San Francisco in June.

Thursday, September 24, 2009, will be an invitation-only event featuring live musical performances, a presentation by ILF, and an exclusive sneak preview of the artwork in advance of the official opening of the Life Essentials' show on Saturday. Guests will be given the opportunity to purchase the artwork and otherwise to support ILF's vital mission through participation in a silent auction and individual donations. Many celebrities, politicians, ambassadors, and other DC power players are expected to attend. Savory hor dourves and sweet desserts will be served along with libations.

Saturday, September 26, 2009, will be the official Life Essentials' art show opening kicking off the four city tour at the Portals Theater in Washington, DC, Art Whino opens this incredible art show and reception party featuring a night of lush entertainment by Ancient Astronauts, ESL music's newest signed talent from Germany, who will headline the evening with a special performance, setting the mood for this spectacular evening.

Kareem Rizk "Joy"

Cut and paste exhibition of contemporary collage.

Edvard Derkert contacted me about an upcoming show in Stockholm, Sweden taking place at Galleri KG52. The exhibit is titled "Cut and paste" and focuses on artists working in contemporary collage. One of my favorites, Kareem Rizk, is a part of the show but there are also many more talented artists including Liz Cohn, Fred Free, Px(c), Woefoep, and Richard Russell.

The Suitcase: Collage art by Kareem Rizk.

I just received a link to Kareem Rizk's blog which has updates about his new shows and miscellaneous art happenings. Kareem contacted me a few years back and we have exchanged e mails since that time about art, collage, transfers, etc..

I am a big fan of Kareem's collage work. His working mediums include collage, acrylic, oil pastel, pencil, solvent transfers and acrylic transfers. His subject matter is based in typography, vintage photographs and bold use of color blocking. Kareem has been blurring the lines of digital and analog by taking his collages into the computer and manipulating them for a new look.
